Sez She

written by Jane Martin

directed by Robin Fonfara

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune called it “…enormously entertaining, more like a Disney World ride aimed at adults. Lean back, take a deep breath, and grasp the handrail firmly.”

“Sez She” is humorous and outspoken, offering unique homespun philosophy on complex issues like napping in a theater, the "WHEEEE" of good sex, the virtues of being green (yes…the color green), and the celebration of Damn Fools Day.

America’s best known unknown playwright.

“Sez She” is the late Martin’s final play in a series that features broad perspectives of modern-day women, told in a series of intimate and revealing monologues. Two previous plays, “Talking With” and “Vital Signs”, won numerous awards, including the American Theatre Critics Best Play Award. In 1994, “Keely and Du,” an earlier work, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

Jane Martin has an impressive writing career, producing over ten full length plays, six one-acts, and numerous shorts. She won the American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award twice. Yet, she has not made one public appearance. No interviews. No pictures. No sightings. Nothing. She has been called “America’s best known unknown playwright.”

The play follows the eccentric Elwood P. Dowd who insists on inviting his very good friend to all of his sister’s social gatherings. Elwood’s friend, however, is a six-foot, one-and-one-half inch tall rabbit named Harvey that seems to be invisible to most who meet him.

This Pulitzer prize winning comedy of errors, also adapted for film (starring James Stewart) and recently revived on Broadway, will leave audiences smiling with its various plot twists as the characters learn the value of believing what's right in front of you, even if it isn't.
